Video Tutorial on Cricut Craft Room

What an amazing tool! … and it’s free. I’d heard of Cricut Craft Room but hadn’t ventured beyond cutting shapes directly off the cartridges.

Have you ever wished you could cut out titles that were all one piece, welded together, so you didn’t have to mess with lining up the letters perfectly on your page? Cricut Craft Room does that for you!

Ever wished that cricut 3-D box lid didn’t have a cutout in the middle? Cricut Craft Room can fill it in before cutting. In contrast, it can also cut out any image from the middle of that box lid, or a tag, or banner, etc.

Way Cool! I’m off to play with my Cricut…

Chalkboard Cards

Wow, I am loving this chalkboard technique!

Close To My Heart’s March Stamp of the Month, “Home Sweet Home” is tailor made for chalkboard cards and I couldn’t help but try my hand at one.  I used the black and white For Always papers, with a pop of Ruby Red in the matt for the card on the above.   Other stamp sets I used include: D1377 Around the Block, D1542 For a Friend, D1506 Family Love and S1207 Live Out Loud.

After wiping the black cardstock with “cornstarch-in-a-baby-sock” (home-made embossing buddy), I positioned all the stamp images on a 4″x6″  block until I had them in the pattern I wanted. I stamped them all together with Versamark and used white embossing powder.  Leaving all the stamps in their same position on the block, I inked them up with white pigment ink and overstamped them onto the black cardstock, shifting them slightly to give a shadow effect. Then I traced an outline around the words using a white watercolor pencil. Finally I smudged a bit of white pigment ink onto the card at various spots using a kleenex to give a “chalk dust” impression to the card.

The chalkboard card above is a birthday card, made with the Chantilly paper and stamp images from: D1547 For Always, D1475 Card Chatter Birthday, C1474 Ten Things and B1332 Good Times. I used a similar technique, adding in additional colored lines and filling in the font on “Congrats” with pink watercolor pencil.

I love the way the both turned out and can’t wait to try a few more cards like them.

For those of you signed up for my Chantilly Cards class on March 7th or the For Always Card class in April, I’ll have materials on hand for making these chalkboard cards as a bonus in addition to the 15 card class cards.  So, if you want to try your hand at experimenting with the chalkboard technique, come and join us!

Beautiful Chantilly Pages!

The Chantilly papers are without a doubt my favorite papers in Close To My Heart’s Spring/Summer Idea Book. I couldn’t wait to dig into them and play.  So, here are the results of my play: 4 fantastic, sunny layouts:

Chantilly Birthday Cards

March’s cardmaking workshop features the bright and beautiful Chantilly papers. They are my favorite new papers and I couldn’t wait to create with them!

We’ll make 5 each of the three designs shown below:

You may notice that I’ve experimented with using the flip side of the papers to create two different looks for each of the 3 basic designs. I’ll have the papers pre-cut and ready to assemble for you, and you are free to mix and match the paper to create your own look.  I think the greens and blues look a bit more masculine, while the brighter floral side of the papers give the cards a more feminine look.  Either way, you’ll end up with 15 gorgeous birthday cards on hand for giving to those special friends and family.

We’ll meet on Thursday morning, March 7th, for some tea and coffee, cake and cookies and fellowship while we play with some fun stamping techniques used in creating these cards.

Workshop is limited to 8 participants. RSVP by Monday, March 4rth so that I may have your papers prepared for you.

When: Thursday March 7th at 9am

Where: 1832 Birch Rd, McLean VA 22101
Cost: $20 for 15 cards with envelopes.

RSVP: 703-790-3497

You can purchase this kit to work on at home.  Everything will be pre-cut, necessary pieces will be stamped, and all accessories included.  I will provide you with a photocopy of the cards so that you can create them at home.  The prices are as follows:

  • $20.00 – you need to pick them up
  • $23.00 – mailed to you first class

Later Sk8r!

Gotta’ love the fun, new all-boy paper pack: Later Sk8r!  Gorgeous blues & whites & greens…  Perfect for those skateboarding, lego robot building, rough and rowdy boys….  Uh oh… I don’t have any of those!  I have a girl who likes to skateboard, but I figure if I don’t ever take pictures of her skateboarding we can pretend like it never happened when she dresses up for her senior prom…  Her brother is more into hip hop dancing and theater arts than skateboarding and the grunge look…. so… I’ve designed a set of 4 layouts, using Later Sk8r, that AREN’T in the skateboarding, grunge style:

Of course if you DO have skateboarding boys there is a complete set of gears and grunge and skateboarding images on the Complements that come with this kit and you are welcome to embellish the pages with them, instead of the stars and flowers, to turn these layouts right back into skateboarding layouts.  If you’d like to join us in creating these pages, there are still spots open in the Workshop.

When: Saturday, February 23rd
Time: 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Where: 1832 Birch Rd, McLean VA 22101
Cost: $25, includes the Later Sk8r paper pack and all embellishments

Happy Valentines Day!

Today is a great day for random hugs 🙂

I’ve finally finished making 26 valentine boxes with treat tubes for daughter #3’s Kindergarten class, 34 brownie pops for son #2’s 4rth grade class and 28 valentine cards with treat  cups and candy hearts for daughter #2’s 5th grade class. Son #1 and Daughter #1 are too old for school valentines, thank goodness. Of course they’re never too old to enjoy the valentine treats I made for each of them.  Oh, and I made my DH a Valentine’s Day card too…

All of which explains why I haven’t had time to post the list of Spring Workshops before now. So, now that everything’s done, here they are!

Home Decor Workshops

Display Tray

decorated frame

March:  Muslin Bags

April: Display Tray

May: Bracket Frame

June: 6×6 Canvas

The exact time and dates will be arranged among those interested in doing these projects. Look for more information about these workshops in upcoming posts….

Ask me about joining my Spring Hostess Club group as well. Each month the club members agree to order $25 worth of CTMH items and one member gets to claim the hostess awards for the month, which amount to $25 or $40 worth of free products plus a 1/2 price item. During the last 6 months, all 6 of my club members have gotten themselves the Cricut Art Philosophy and Artiste bundles as 1/2 price items for only $49.99 that way. An awesome deal!  We have 5 in the group so far and have space for one more.

So there you have it: the list of Spring Workshops and Classes. They all look like so much fun, I want to do them all at once. I have as much fun creating the workshops and you, hopefully, have doing them!  Hope to see you all here soon….
